Shrink Killer Suspect Acts Up at Hearing

The suspected killer of a New York psychologist shocked observers at a hearing today by ridiculing his lawyer and asking for food, the New York Post reports. The judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation of David Tarloff, who was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of Kathryn Faughey and attempted murder and assault in an attack on Kent Shinbach, Tarloff's psychiatrist.

Tarloff criticized his lawyer, Reginald Sharp, for not being Al Sharpton. "Look at him! He's white!" Tarloff said. "This man is lying. I won’t talk until I have a real attorney.” Tarloff's brother Robert told the New York Times that his family tried and failed to keep him hospitalized. "They kept releasing him, even after we told them what had been going on with his situation," he said. (More Kathryn Faughey stories.)
