A Pennsylvania state trooper injured in an ambush that killed another trooper outside their barracks in the northeast of the state Friday night regained consciousness yesterday and investigators hope to speak to him soon, the AP reports. No arrests have been made over the attack that killed Cpl. Bryon Dickson, a married father of two young sons, but a police spokesman says a large number of tips, some of them "fantastic," have been coming in. A "person of interest" who has been interviewed is not a suspect, police say.
Route 402 near the barracks in Blooming Grove has been reopened and police have set up a checkpoint to interview motorists, reports the Times-Tribune of Scranton. Police believe the officers were fired on from a wooded area across from the remote barracks, but the "very dangerous, armed criminal" involved is no longer in the forest, which has been searched by officers from three states. "There has been an exhaustive search conducted by hundreds of members of law enforcement," a police spokesman says. "We have canvassed the wooded areas, neighborhoods.
