Police in Southern California have confirmed that a body found yesterday is that of a 3-week-old baby girl who was abducted from a Long Beach home after a shooting. The identification of Eliza Delacruz came after detectives from Long Beach traveled to San Diego County to help authorities investigate the discovery of a child's remains found in a dumpster behind a strip mall. Police say the coroner's office identified the child, who had disappeared Saturday night.
Officials say police went to the Long Beach home after receiving a call about the shooting and found the baby's mother, father, and uncle with gunshot wounds. Police are now seeking an adult male in the shooting but have not said if the man is related to the baby. A police spokeswoman says the suspect's motive is unknown, but detectives don't believe the shooting was a random act. Two victims remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while the other has been treated and released. (More California stories.)
