Disney Bans Selfie Sticks

Those who simply must prove they've been to Disney World will need to do so without the use of a selfie stick. Disney is banning the device—generally a pole with a camera stuck on the end of it—at all its theme parks because of safety concerns, reports the Orlando Sentinel. Just this week, someone pulled one out on a roller coaster at Disney California Adventure park, even though the sticks had been previously banned from rides. The stunt caused the coaster to shut down for an hour.

Disney is joining a trend in banning selfie sticks, which already are outlawed at many renowned museums both in the US and abroad and at some big-league sporting events, reports USA Today. Part of the reason is so nobody's view gets obstructed during the grand pose. Starting Tuesday, selfie sticks will be confiscated at the gate from Disney visitors, who will be allowed to pick them up later if they wish. (More Disney World stories.)
