Authorities say anti-vaccine Dr. Jeff Bradstreet has been found dead in an apparent suicide in North Carolina. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said this week that Bradstreet died of "a gunshot wound to the chest, which appears to be self inflicted." Bradstreet, 61, was found by a fisherman in the Rocky Broad River in Chimney Rock on June 19. His death came after the FDA and the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency raided his Buford clinic, the Bradstreet Wellness Center, for unknown reasons last week, reports the Gwinnett Daily Post. Neither agency would disclose the reason for the search.
The sheriff's department said Tuesday that a handgun was also pulled from the river. Authorities are still investigating. His family is raising funds online for what "an exhaustive investigation into the possibility of foul play." Bradstreet published autism research based on the disputed claim vaccines cause autism. The medical community says such claims have been disproved. (More vaccines cause autism stories.)
