Special Needs Siblings Found in Cages

Two women were charged with child cruelty and false imprisonment after authorities found siblings with special needs living in what police called "homemade cages" inside a Georgia home yesterday. Acting on a tip that a child had been left alone at home in rural Chatsworth, officers discovered that while an adult was home, an 8-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy had been living inside improvised cages made of beds, wooden railings, hinges, and zip ties, reports NBC News. The children's mother, 34-year-old Stephanie Stone, and a 49-year-old woman named Wanda Redfern were arrested.

"Some parts of the home where the two cage apparatus' were less than what anyone would want to live in," says a local FBI official. The children were placed into the custody of the Department of Family and Children's Services, which had been working on the family's case until closing it in June, WTVC reports.
