6.7 Magnitude Quake Hits India

A pre-dawn earthquake Monday rocked India's remote northeast region but there was no immediate word on casualties. India's Meteorological Department says the epicenter of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake was in Tamenglong region of Manipur state. It says the quake struck at a depth of about 10 miles in the India-Myanmar border region. The US Geological Survey says the depth was about 34 miles. People panicked and rushed out of their homes in Gauhati, the capital of Assam state. The Press Trust of India reports that there were no immediate reports of casualties. Other details were not immediately known.
