East Coasters were largely too busy shoveling to go to the movies this weekend, but it was a tale of man vs. nature that emerged victorious at the box office: Leo DiCaprio's The Revenant took the top spot for the first time in its third weekend in wide release, reports USA Today, with a blizzard-depressed take of $16 million. "Studios often blame poor weekends on bad weather, but that was truly the case during Jonas. It was a big deal for a number of movies," says a Rentrak analyst. "But The Revenant did something astonishing this weekend taking the top spot with this intense wilderness epic. It's flourishing." Star Wars: The Force Awakens came in at No. 2 with $14.25 million, while last week's winner, Ride Along 2, slipped to No. 3 with $13 million. (More box office stories.)
