Politics / Huffington Post HuffPo to State Trump Is 'Racist' After Every Article Also a 'serial liar' and 'rampant xenophobe' By Arden Dier, Newser Staff Posted Jan 29, 2016 6:05 AM CST Copied Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump poses with a ring given to him by a group of veterans during a campaign event on the campus of Drake University Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong) Hoping to learn more about Donald Trump's campaign by perusing the Huffington Post? You'll also learn that he's a "serial liar" and a "racist." An editor's note attached to a Trump story published Wednesday reads: "Note to our readers: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims—1.6 billion members of an entire religion—from entering the US." It was no one-off message: A Huffington Post rep tells Politico the note will be appended to all future stories about the Republican frontrunner. "No other candidate has called for banning 1.6 billion people from the country! If any other candidate makes such a proposal, we'll append a note under pieces about them," the rep says. When the outlet moved Trump coverage out of its "Entertainment" channel and back into its "Politics" section in December, Arianna Huffington vowed the site would "constantly remind the public of what he stands for, citing references and providing links," and the editor's note is indeed peppered with hyperlinks. At the Washington Post, Erik Wemple surfaces what he suggests could be "some precedential problems. ... Say a politician endorses Trump, as has Sarah Palin. Does she now get a readers’ note for associating herself with Trump’s bigoted worldview?" Regardless, he sees the move as having "fulfilled" Huffington's December vow. (More Huffington Post stories.)
