The important win brought the Blackhawks within four points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The pace was furious late, as the two teams combined for four goals in the final 10:50 of regulation. In addition to netting his 18th goal, Kane tied Chicago's rookie record for assists (47), held by his coach, Denis Savard. The loss ended a brutal nine-game road trip for the Blues, who finished 1-7-1 and completely faded from contention in the process.
