Manager: Intervention Reached Out, but Chyna Was Dead

The manager of beloved WWE legend Chyna says he was so worried about her prescription drug use that he was working to secure her a spot on the A&E TV show Intervention—but she was already dead when producers "started reaching out" to her. Anthony Anzaldo tells E! News that he secretly approached Intervention "because they offered the opportunity to put a professional intervention together in days instead of weeks" and get her into a "first-class facility" for 90 days. He says Chyna had been "over-medicating" with Ambien and Valium, but hadn't been using illegal drugs; the intervention would have formed part of a documentary he was already making about her.

Chyna's WWE friends, including Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley, would have taken part in the intervention, according to TMZ; no comment from A&E yet. Anzaldo says he was the one who found Chyna's body last week. He went to her apartment after he hadn't heard from her in days. "She looked peaceful," says the manager, who believes she died in her sleep. The death is being investigated as a possible overdose, but it could take months to get results of toxicology tests because of the LA County coroner's huge backlog of cases, the Los Angeles Times reports. But whatever the cause, Chyna deserved better than death at 46 and it seems likely that she will finally "get the Hall of Fame nod she so clearly deserves and so desperately wanted," Mairead Small Staid writes in a moving tribute at Jezebel.
