An EMS crew discovered a "fresh" heart inside a plastic bag in a Norwalk, Ohio, field in late August, and police are now attempting to determine whether the heart is human and whose it was, Cleveland 19 reports. A Cleveland 19 reporter said on Facebook that the heart, which is "likely human," was found near a gas station and convenience store. In perhaps the understatement of the year, a local police sergeant calls the situation "pretty unusual" and adds that the heart had only just started to decompose when it was found and could possibly have been frozen before that point. At this point, there's no indication the heart is related to a violent crime. "It could have come from a funeral home, an autopsy," the sergeant says. "There's endless possibilities." It's not clear how long testing will take, the Norwalk Reflector reports. (More strange stuff stories.)
