Guy's Trump-Clinton Parade Float Didn't Go Over Well

Oddly, some didn't find execution-themed float with blackface Obama Easter Island head funny

The Farmer's Fair is the biggest event in Aurora, Ind., each year, but this time around it also produced the biggest commotion. Per WCPO, a float in the festival's parade featured a person dressed as Hillary Clinton in an electric chair, with another portraying Donald Trump at the ready to execute her. Also included on the float: a replica of an Easter Island head, in blackface, meant to depict President Obama. "Could have had Donald Trump in the electric chair. It was a tossup," the float's maker, Frank Linkmeyer, says in his defense, noting he didn't mean to offend anyone and that he's poked fun at other people before in his parade creations. But not everyone agrees with his take.

"Who thinks this is appropriate for a fair parade where children, some of them minorities and girls, are marching ... and watching? Who thinks this is something to laugh at or be proud of?" a local mom posted on Facebook, adding the display was "disgusting." Another mom tells WLWT she's not sure she'll let her daughter march in the parade next year because of this incident. The Aurora Lions Club, which runs the festival, said on the fair's site that it "regrets" the float, which "does not reflect the views" of the group. "We hope the political circus of this year's election stays with the national media," it states. Meanwhile, Linkmeyer, who tells WCPO he's a Democrat, says next year he may make fun of the media instead. And if you're offended? "Don't come to the parade next time," he advises. (SeaWorld's float took some flak a few years back.)
