Donald Trump was rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents on Saturday as a scuffle broke out and a man in the front of the Reno, Nev., audience shouted, "gun!" A man was escorted out, but, "upon a thorough search of the subject and the surrounding area, no weapon was found," the Secret Service said in a statement, per Politico. "A thorough investigation is ongoing at this time by the US Secret Service and the Reno Police Department." The candidate returned to the stage moments later, and thanked the Secret Service. "Nobody said it was going to be easy for us, but we will never be stopped," he said. Trump attended a later rally in Colorado as scheduled.
Trump later released a statement saluting "the United States Secret Service and the law enforcement resources in Reno and the state of Nevada for their fast and professional response." It's not known if the man escorted from the rally has been charged. The AP notes that Donald Trump Jr. and a top campaign aide were "falsely spreading the rumor" that there had been an assassination attempt, retweeting this tweet: "Hillary ran away from rain today. Trump is back on stage minutes after assassination attempt." (More Donald Trump stories.)
