Police in California are searching for two inmates who cut through the bars of a second-floor cell and lowered a rope of sheets and clothing to escape. Rogelio Chavez, 33, and Lanon Campbell, 26, made their getaway from San Jose's Main Jail at around 11pm Wednesday night, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Two other escapees were recaptured just outside the jail after a deputy patrolling the area saw movement and spotted the rope.
Chavez, who had been behind bars since August, faced charges including burglary and false imprisonment. Campbell was booked in Feb. 2015 on charges including robbery and false imprisonment. Police say both men are very dangerous and anyone who encounters them should use extreme caution. "We definitely don't want the community to approach these individuals, but be aware of anything suspicious," Sgt. Rich Glennon from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office tells the AP. Authorities decided to go ahead with the annual Silicon Valley Turkey Trot despite the manhunt in the area. (More prison break stories.)
