The debate over who should be Donald Trump's secretary of state has moved from behind closed doors to … Twitter. Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway took to Twitter on Thursday to discuss Mitt Romney, a candidate for the post, suggesting a vocal critic of Trump shouldn't be favored over a loyal Trump supporter. In one tweet, which linked to a Politico story titled "Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as secretary of state," she noted she's received a "deluge" of communications about the 2012 candidate for president. In a second, she said Henry Kissinger and George Shultz "flew around the world less, counseled POTUS close to home more. And were loyal. Good checklist," reports the Wall Street Journal.
Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich have also spoken against Romney as head of the State Department. Gingrich, who supports Rudy Giuliani for the slot, has questioned whether Romney could be loyal to Trump when he was his "most vicious and most explicit opponent all through the campaign on the Republican side." Romney and Giuliani are believed to be the favorites for the job, though Gen. John F. Kelly, former CIA director David Petraeus, and Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee are other possible options, per the New York Times. A rep for Trump's team says the president-elect is dedicating "significant time" to the decision, per Politico.
