Dirt-Bike Gang Attacks Driver in Middle of Highway

San Francisco police are searching for 10 to 15 suspects on dirt bikes and an ATV who were recorded Wednesday surrounding a vehicle and beating up its driver, who reportedly drives for Uber. The group was first seen performing stunts in the street shortly before driving onto Highway 101 and surrounding a white car, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. One witness describes seeing the bikers "physically hitting" the car and breaking the side mirrors, as though "provoking the driver to come out." When the driver did get out, "the biker gang started beating him up," the witness says. Video shows the man being punched and kicked while on the ground.

A woman identifies the victim as her brother, 35-year-old Alex, who suffered a broken leg and other injuries and had to undergo surgery. She says the father to a new baby boy lives in Modesto but travels to San Francisco daily to drive for Uber, though Uber was unable to confirm one of its drivers was involved in the incident, per CNET. It also isn’t clear if Alex was driving for Uber at the time of the attack. Though several witnesses called 911 to report the assault, the attackers had vanished by the time police arrived. Officers believe they are the same ones witnesses saw earlier in the evening driving slowly and popping wheelies on the highway, leading to a traffic jam.
