A New York cop nabbed for robbing a bank this week may have committed two other heists last year, the NYPD said today. Christian Torres, a transit officer described by NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly as “a model cadet,” will be charged in New York after proceedings wrap up in Pennsylvania—where he allegedly stole $113,000 at a bank Thursday.
Police say Torres robbed more than $118,000 from two New York banks last year to buy a car and an engagement ring for his girlfriend, described by an NYPD source as "stunning and stunned." Kelly was just as surprised. "There is nothing that could have predicted this shocking series of crimes," he said. Torres is currently on suicide watch in a small Pennsylvania jail.
