A Rhode Island town's long, smelly nightmare is finally over. Two weeks ago, a Tiverton resident used unwashed clam shells to pave an access road on his property, the AP reports. The shells still had bits of clam meat stuck to them, eventually drawing flies and maggots while creating an ungodly stench. Neighbors complained to the city and circulated a petition as the problem got worse with the record-breaking heat of recent days. According to WJAR, the city finally issued a cease-and-desist order against David Rose and his shells Friday, giving him until June 16 to remove them. Authorities determined that since so much rotting meat was still on the shells, they technically qualified as waste. One neighbor calls it "pretty amazing news for us." Crews showed up Wednesday to start removing the stinky shells. (More smell stories.)
