In a disturbing case out of Venezuela, authorities say animals have been stolen from a zoo—to be used as food. "What we presume is that they (were taken) with the intention of eating them," a police official says, per the Guardian. The two collared peccaries that were stolen over the weekend from Zulia Metropolitan Zoological Park look similar to boars; other animals, including a buffalo that was cut into pieces, have also been stolen recently. The strange case illustrates the chronic food shortages and hunger plaguing Venezuela since its socialist economic model collapsed.
