Why protest when you could eat cake? That's something Tina Fey would like you to consider. During a segment on the events in Charlottesville during Thursday's standalone episode of Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, the University of Virginia grad proposed "sheet caking" as an alternative to protesting several alt-right rallies planned for Saturday. Here's how it works: You find a local bakery, perhaps one run by minorities, "order a cake with the American flag on it … and just eat it," Fey said before chowing down on her own version. Take any frustrations you have—like about how when Native Americans had "a peaceful protest at Standing Rock, we shot at them with rubber bullets, but we let you chinless turds march through the streets with semi-automatic weapons"—and "yell it into the cake."
Do so, and you'll be part of a grassroots movement. "Most of the women I know have been [sheet-caking] once a week since the election," she quipped. As for this weekend's planned rallies, one of which is scheduled to take place in NYC's Washington Square Park, "I hope [these neo-Nazis] try it and get the ham salad kicked out of them by a bunch of drag queens. Since you know what a drag queen still is? A 6-foot-4 black man." But her real wish? "Treat these rallies this weekend like the opening of a thoughtful movie with two female leads: Don't show up."
