Uma Thurman Gives Cryptic Take on Hollywood Harassment

One actress who has worked under Harvey Weinstein and hadn't revealed her thoughts on the Hollywood sexual misconduct scandal is Uma Thurman, per the Hollywood Reporter. But an Access Hollywood reporter finally asked Thurman, attending a movie premiere this weekend, for her take, and Thurman chose her words carefully. "I don't have a tidy soundbite for you, because I am not a child and I have learned that when I have spoken in anger, I usually regret the way I express myself," she said. "So I've been waiting to feel less angry, and when I'm ready, I'll say what I have to say." If Thurman eventually elaborates, it won't be surprising if it's incriminating: The Telegraph cites a 1989 Rolling Stone profile of Thurman in which she spoke of being "besieged by persistent admirers" in the industry in her teens, usually by older men (John Malkovich and Sylvester Stallone are mentioned).

"Unfortunately, I'm the prey," is how she ends the interview. One person who hopes Thurman gets over her anger enough to speak up soon is actress Asia Argento, one of Weinstein's accusers, USA Today reports. On Saturday, in direct response to Thurman after her short interview clip emerged, Argento tweeted: "May peace be with you and your soul. We need your strong voice, it truly is commanding." Meanwhile, Michelle Pfeiffer spoke with the BBC over the weekend, and while she says she's never worked with Weinstein, she notes she's had "some experiences" over her career. She adds that since the Weinstein news broke, "there really hasn't been one woman that I've talked to who hasn't had an experience" and that "it just goes to show you how systemic the problem is."
