As far as political journalists go, Glenn Thrush is well known to the point that Bobby Moynihan has played him a number of times in Saturday Night Live skits. The New York Times White House correspondent is also the latest man to be hit with allegations of sexual misconduct, by way of a Vox exclusive. Laura McGann recounts the allegations put forth by a 23-year-old journalist who in June attended a colleague's going-away party; she says she and Thrush, 50, shared drinks, and that, as McGann puts it, "Thrush left her in tears after she resisted his advances." McGann writes that much the same thing happened to her five years ago, when the two worked at Politico. Toward the end of a reporters' bar night, he thrust a $20 bill at the other female colleague who remained in their booth, telling her it was cab fare and to leave the "grown-ups" alone.

McGann alleges he then put his hand on her thigh and began kissing her. She fled. She says she got an apologetic email from Thrush the next morning, but she recently learned from a male former colleague that the day after, Thrush told him McGann came on to him and he ended it. In a statement Thrush emailed to McGann Sunday, he said the encounter with her was "consensual, brief, and ended by me." As for the June incident, he called it a "life-changing event," writing he has a habit of reacting to "personal and health crises by drinking heavily" but that he hasn't had a drink since that night and planned to get outpatient treatment. The Times on Monday announced his suspension pending an investigation. McGann's full piece details other allegations from women in their 20s against Thrush. (More Glenn Thrush stories.)
