The first sign something was amiss in Buzz Aldrin's world came Monday, when a tweet was sent out via the Twitter account the famed Apollo 11 astronaut hasn't used much in recent weeks. "Hey Twittersphere, pls RT @buzzs_xtina was terminated and does NOT represent Buzz Aldrin in ANY capacity," the tweet read, referring to Aldrin's longtime manager, Christina Korp. Now, more news has emerged: The 88-year-old Aldrin filed a lawsuit June 7 against Korp, his children, and his own organizations, claiming they've taken advantage of his trust and his finances, slandered him by saying he has dementia, and tried to derail romantic relationships he's had, Florida Today reports. Per the complaint, the family and the Buzz Aldrin Space Foundation have done so "to gain further control over [Buzz Aldrin's] personal relationships, business contacts, and assets."
Aldrin's kids and the foundation, however, are telling a different story: They fear Aldrin has potentially been manipulated by other parties who are trying to get ahold of his money and capitalize on his reputation. The foundation also notes that Korp hasn't actually been fired and is still one of the group's board members, and also that it doesn't think Aldrin himself penned the tweet saying she'd been canned. "We are not sure who is responsible for the tweet regarding Christina Korp, but we are confident Buzz did not write this," the foundation said in a statement. NASA journalist Keith Cowing, who's known Aldrin for a long time, tells Ars Technica that tweet also caught his eye, as Aldrin hadn't been on Twitter of late and the tweet sounded "uncharacteristic." "This is not the Buzz Aldrin I've known for decades," he says. (More Buzz Aldrin stories.)
