President Trump said Brett Kavanaugh was the victim of a "hoax." Conservative commentators said he wasn't the only one, using the hashtag #HimToo to paint men as victims of a feminist witch hunt, per Wired. University of Central Florida student Pieter Hanson unknowingly became the face of the movement, despite his support for its antithesis, #MeToo. "This is MY son," Hanson's mom tweeted alongside a photo of the 32-year-old Navy veteran, since deleted. "He is a gentleman who respects women. He won't go on solo dates due to the current climate of false sexual accusations by radical feminists with an axe to grind. I VOTE. #HimToo."

Prompting countless spoof tweets using the same format, the message took Hanson by surprise, despite his mom's tendency to make what he calls "loose cannon" statements. "It doesn't represent me at all," he tells the Washington Post. "We all have crazy parents," he adds, per the BBC. Hanson even joined Twitter to broadcast his denial Tuesday using the handle @Thatwasmymom. "Sometimes the people we love do things that hurt us without realizing it. Let's turn this around," he wrote. "I respect and #BelieveWomen. I never have and never will support #HimToo." Per HuffPost, Hanson's brother/wingman notes, "He is single. He does go on solo dates."
