A piece of pizza helped seal murder charges against Daron Wint; a jury helped seal his fate. Per the Washington Post, the 37-year-old was handed a guilty verdict Thursday for the 2015 quadruple slaying of a family in Washington, DC, and their housekeeper, six weeks after his trial started. In addition to convictions for kidnapping, burglary, and arson charges, Wint was convicted of the "Mansion Murders" of 46-year-old Savvas Savopoulos, his 47-year-old wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip, and housekeeper Veralicia "Vera" Figueroa, 57 in May 2015 after breaking into the home and extorting a $40,000 ransom, CNN reports. The Savopouloses had two other children who were away at boarding school the day of the attack.
It was said to be a two-day crime, with Wint first entering the Savopoulos home on May 13 and restraining Philip and Figueroa; Amy Savopoulos was restrained by him when she returned home with coffee, and Wint had her lure her husband home over the phone. The victims were stabbed and beaten with baseball bats and covered with gasoline; the home was reported to be on fire on May 14. In addition to other evidence, Wint had left behind his DNA on a piece of Domino's pizza that was delivered to the house the night of May 13. Wint tried to frame his brother and half-brother in the crime, saying he was at the house eating pizza because he thought he was there to do a drywall and paint job. Wint will be sentenced Feb. 1. (DNA cleared this man, and now he's suing.)
