For the past 29 years, the United Health Foundation (a nonprofit arm of health care and insurance company UnitedHealth Group) has ranked the 50 states in terms of overall health. For the first time since starting the America's Health Rankings report, a senior adviser tells CNN, obesity went up 5% from last year to this year. The obesity rate for adults in America is now at an all-time high of 31.3%, she says. But there are also positive trends, like an increase in the number of mental health providers across the nation. The report looks at 35 measures to put together the rankings; those measures range from lifestyle choices to public policy, health care, environment, and more. The five healthiest states for 2018:

- Connecticut
- Vermont
- Utah
