Among the “grim consequences” of the ongoing government shutdown, the Guardian notes, are “messy toilets, broken Joshua trees, and unsupervised campers” at national parks around the US. In Oregon, Dan Little, husband of Gov. Kate Brown, got his hands dirty this month to mitigate at least one of those consequences—namely messy toilets. Little, a retired data expert for the National Forest Service, took it upon himself to clean the objectively disgusting bathrooms at the Mt. Hood National Forest Sno-Park. Little left the cement bathroom floors “spotless,” KATU reports.
And then, he sent a bill for $28—the cost to dispose of the used paper plates, dog poop bags, and other rubbish that covered the bathroom floor— to President Trump. “This is just one of the many reasons I love my husband,” Brown tweeted. The Guardian notes that as the longest-ever government shutdown continues, volunteers and businesses have begun pitching in to keep parks and facilities clean while federal workers are furloughed. As for Little’s $28 bill to Trump, he hasn’t seen a cent yet, Brown’s office reports. (Trump did treat a team to a fast-food feast on his dime.)
