Frustrated Virgin Threatened Mass Shooting, Police Say
Christopher Cleary posted that he planned on being "the next mass shooter," police say.   (Utah County Sheriff's Office)

Saying that “all I wanted was to be loved,” a 27-year-old Denver man posted on Facebook that he planned to kill “as many girls as I see” because he’s a virgin who’s never had a girlfriend, police said. Christopher Cleary is being held without bail in Utah on a charge of threatening terrorism, the Denver Post reports. He was arrested Saturday while visiting Provo after several women reported the online threats. Law enforcement officials said they were especially concerned because women’s marches were being held over the weekend. Cleary has been convicted twice of stalking and is on probation, the Post said.

“All I wanted was a girlfriend. … All I wanted was to be loved, yet no one cares about me I’m 27 years old and I've never had a girlfriend before and I'm still a virgin, this is why I’m planning on shooting up a public place soon and being the next mass shooter cause I’m ready to die and all the girls the turned me down is going to make it right by killing as many girls as I see,” one post said, according to a Deseret News account of an affidavit. FBI agents tracked Cleary’s cellphone to a McDonald’s in Provo, where he was arrested. Agents said he told them he’d taken down the posts after complaints, CBS4 in Denver reports. (The posts seem similar to others linked to the "incel" subculture.)
