Tensions between Meghan Markle and her father went public Saturday when he let a British tabloid publish her anguished letter to him, People reports. "Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you are causing," the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex wrote in her August 2018 letter to Thomas Markle, 74. "Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces—not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand."

Meghan's emotional letter accuses him of lying—saying he didn't call before her wedding to Prince Harry, despite his claim that he tried reaching her—and slams him for speaking about them only to tabloids. "On a daily basis you fixated and clicked on the lies they were writing about me, especially those manufactured by your other daughter, who I barely know," she writes in the five-page letter. "You watched me silently suffer at the hand of her vicious lies, I crumbled inside." Meghan's friends confirm her version of events, per People, while Thomas says he wrote his daughter back seeking a photo op with her and Harry to "show harmony." Thomas put it this way: "I'm human and I'm sorry! How much longer must I say it?" (More royal family stories.)
