Sydney Aiello survived the mass shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. For about a year. The 19-year-old's mother said she killed herself last weekend. Aiello was close friends with Meadow Pollack, WFOR reports, who was killed in the attack in February 2018. Aiello was on campus but in a different building during the shootings, and she graduated from high school last year. "It breaks my heart that we've lost yet another student from Stoneman Douglas," said the father of another student on campus. She died of a gunshot wound, officials told NBC.

Aiello had struggled with survivor's guilt and recently was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, said her mother, Cara Aiello. She had difficulty going to college because of her fear of being in a classroom. She had been sad lately, her mother said, but didn't ask for help. "We know we need to find the people suffering in silence," a suicide expert told WFOR. Supporters have set up a GoFundMe page in her name, with money to go to her family.
