Randy Travis celebrated his 60th birthday with a crowd-pleasing appearance at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday. Carrie Underwood was among the artists who sent video greetings, People reports. The country star has made few public appearances since suffering a massive stroke in 2013; he was left with impaired speech and had to learn to walk again. Just before the stroke, Travis performed a moving Amazing Grace at a service for superstar George Jones. On Saturday, Travis sang the final "Amen" in his hit, "Forever and Ever, Amen," per Fox News.
On May 14, Travis' memoir will be released, per People. He says he learned about himself in writing Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life. "I understand that whatever I have done for myself will pass with me, but, whatever I do for mankind will remain," he says. After revisiting his history, he says, "in my waning years of ability, I have a clearer picture of the past." Travis, who has won seven Grammy Awards, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. (His Hall of Fame appearance was a hit.)
