New York Times reporter Annie Karni was getting ready to head to Japan to cover President Trump's visit there when she found out about the dress code for one of the events she'd be attending—and she had to scramble to pack just the right thing, per Sky News. "The guidance that we needed a floor-length gown for tonight's imperial banquet came hours before my flight departed," Karni tweeted Monday from the state dinner at Tokyo's Imperial Palace. "I only own one floor-length gown. So, here I am, pooling a presidential event in my wedding dress."
The dress from her 2015 nuptials was a simple, sleek ivory number, not a "big, poofy wedding dress," so she was actually able to pull it off, she tells People, adding that she simply didn't have time before her flight to buy different eveningwear. A tweet posted Monday morning shows a picture of Karni in her impromptu get-up (she's on the far left). And what did the gussied-up Karni and other reporters get to dine on "in a small, very hot room" while Trump and Emperor Naruhito enjoyed a six-course meal?
