US | Trump Tower Could Trump Tower End Up on 'Barack Obama Avenue'? That's what 130K petition signers want By Evann Gastaldo Posted Aug 14, 2019 2:37 PM CDT Copied People walk past Trump Tower, Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, in New York. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan) Trump Tower's current address is 725 5th Avenue in New York City. But if thousands of petitioners have their way, it will be 725 President Barack H. Obama Avenue, the Huffington Post reports. More than 130,000 people have so far signed a MoveOn.org petition to rename the portion of Manhattan's 5th Avenue that is between 56th and 57th streets—where Trump Tower sits. "The City of Los Angeles recently honored former President Barack Obama by renaming a stretch of the 134 Freeway near Downtown LA in his honor," the petition reads. "We request the New York City Mayor and City Council do the same." Such big names as Patricia Arquette and Marg Helgenberger have signed the petition, which organizer Elizabeth Rowin started "as a joke," she tells Newsweek. But when she reached out to the city council, several members responded and said they would pursue the issue, she says, and she's now committed to writing to Mayor Bill De Blasio to see if there's a chance of the request being honored. But city rules require that in order for a street to be named after someone, that person must have died at least two years prior, and a local official tells USA Today that a moratorium on street renaming has been placed by the local community board.
