(KFC via AP) Non-meat "meat" products are almost everywhere, and the next place they're heading is KFC. The chain is testing a vegan version of its fried chicken in an Atlanta restaurant starting Tuesday, CNBC reports. The plant-based product comes from Beyond Meat, making KFC the first national US fast food restaurant to test the company's chicken item. Del Taco is selling a "Beyond Taco" and Carl's Jr. sells a Beyond Burger featuring Beyond Meat, while chains including Burger King, White Castle, and Little Caesars offer plant-based menu items from rival Impossible Foods. KFC will be testing nuggets and wings. The Atlanta restaurant will hand out Beyond Chicken samples to customers who order other things, Bloomberg reports. "Customer feedback from the Atlanta test will be considered as KFC evaluates a broader test or potential national rollout," KFC says in a statement. Bloomberg notes that Beyond Meat's restaurant partnerships have up til now been burger, sausage, or ground beef substitutes. But other companies including Tyson Foods and Perdue Farms are also working on chicken substitutes. Read These Next New Fox star, 23, misses first day after car troubles.
