The death of a 13-year-old boy attacked by two classmates has saddened, shocked, and angered parents in a California community. The boy, identified only as Diego, was attacked at Landmark Middle School in Moreno Valley on Sept. 16 and was pronounced clinically dead eight days later, CBS Los Angeles reports. "Preparations by Diego’s family are underway for organ donation to transform this tragedy into the gift of life for other children," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. Video of the incident shows Diego falling into a concrete pillar after being punched by another student. Two 13-year-old boys arrested the day of the attack are still in the custody of Riverside County Juvenile Hall, the Press-Enterprise reports.

Diego "died because of a fight that no one was preventing and everyone was just taking videos of it," student Divine Eubaney tells NBC Los Angeles. Relative say the school has a problem with bullying and the incident was an attack, not a fight. CNN reports that Moreno Valley Unified School District Superintendent Martinrex Kedziora sought shelter inside the school after he was confronted by angry parents at a vigil for Diego Wednesday night. "What did the school district do? Nothing," one woman said. "What did the school district do a week before when the mother came pleading for her son’s life? They did nothing." The two juvenile suspects, who have been charged with assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, have court dates next month. (More California stories.)
