Fears of a violent clash in Richmond, Virginia, over gun rights never materialized on Monday. The two big numbers: 22,000 pro-gun protesters and only one arrest, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The single arrest was that of a 21-year-old woman for wearing a mask in public, per the newspaper and the AP. The protesters descended on the state Capitol to protest proposed new restrictions on guns, and authorities feared a repeat of the unrest that took place in Charlottesville in 2017. However, no sizable counter-protest sprang up. Democratic state lawmakers say the protest won't change their plans to tighten gun laws. (More Richmond stories.)
