When it comes to Valentine's Day, members of Generation X appear to literally buy into it more than other generations. A survey by Compare Cards pegs the average outlay among all Americans at $142, with men ($249) far outpacing women ($57). But the generational breakdown shows big differences, notes CNBC: 
 -  Gen Z (ages 8 to 23): $82
-  Millennials (24 to 39): $113
-  Gen X (40 to 55): $293
-  Baby boomers (56 to 74): $55
 The 
Wall Street Journal, meanwhile, has a word of caution for those who go out to dinner every year: The meal is going to be more expensive in 2020. Restaurant prices rose 3.1% in January compared to last year, the fastest annual increase in a decade.
