Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has apologized for "immature, hurtful, and disrespectful" remarks he made on social media last week. The NBA announced Tuesday that the 21-year-old has been fined $40,000 for using homophobic language in a video he shared with his 1.2 million followers on Instagram, ESPN reports. Edwards made the offensive remarks in a now-deleted video of a group of people on a sidewalk that he recorded from inside a vehicle, reports the AP.
In a tweet, Edwards said he was "incredibly sorry" for the remarks. "It's unacceptable for me to anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there's no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that," he said. In a statement last week, the team said it was "disappointed" by his languge and actions. "The Timberwolves are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization for all and apologize for the offense this has caused to so many," the team said. (More NBA stories.)
