At least one of the stars of Saturday Night Live seems to disagree with the source who insisted Morgan Wallen's abrupt exit from the most recent show was totally normal. "I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something," Kenan Thompson tells Entertainment Weekly. "I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way." Thompson said one has to "wonder what that's about" when there's a "departure" from the norm in such a "visible" way, adding of Wallen, "Seems like a complicated individual, I guess." As for Wallen's Instagram post after leaving, Thompson mused, "We're not all in God's country? We're not all under God's umbrella? That's not necessarily my favorite."

Speculation was swirling that country star Morgan Wallen dissed Saturday Night Live with his strange exit from the most recent show, on which he appeared as the musical guest. But a source insists no hidden message should be taken from it. Wallen hugged host Mikey Madison and then walked off stage shortly after credits started rolling, rather than sticking around with the rest of the cast and crew, as is customary. But, the source tells Fox News, "That was the way he entered and exited the studio all week during rehearsal and camera blocking, so he just walked that way after hugging Mikey." Other outlets including People and ET Online got similar quotes by way of explanation.
Adding to the controversy was the fact that shortly after the abrupt exit, Wallen posted an Instagram story showing a private jet, presumably about to fly him home, captioned, "Get me to God's country." Wallen is no stranger to controversy swirling around SNL appearances; in 2020, he was asked to be the musical guest on an episode, but after social media footage surfaced showing him maskless at a bar amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, his appearance was pulled. He ended up on the show two months later, however, joking about the whole thing. (More Morgan Wallen stories.)
