This weekend's violence in Minnesota could have been even worse. Prosecutors say the man suspected of shootings at the homes of two state lawmakers on Saturday visited the residences of at least two other lawmakers the same morning, reports the Washington Post.

  • The gunman also went to the homes of a state representative in Maple Grove and a state senator in New Hope, said Joseph H. Thompson, acting US attorney for the District of Minnesota. He did so between attacks at the residences of state Rep. Melissa Hortman—which killed her and husband Mark—and state Sen. John Hoffman, which left him and wife Yvette seriously injured, said Thompson.

  • The other two lawmakers were not identified. One wasn't home at the time, and authorities say the gunman left the other residence when police arrived, per the AP.
  • Hennepin County District Attorney Mary Moriarty says her office plans to charge Vance Boelter with first-degree murder, which will make him eligible for the death penalty, per the New York Times. For now, the charges are two counts of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, but that will change after state prosecutors present their case to a grand jury.
  • "Boelter planned his attack carefully," Thompson said. "He researched his victims and their families."
(Boelter, 57, surrendered to police in rural Minnesota.)
