A Brazilian tourist has been found days after she fell off a cliff while hiking near the crater of an active volcano in Indonesia. Juliana Marins, 26, survived the initial fall on Mount Rinjani on Saturday but the search and rescue operation was hampered by "adverse weather, terrain, and visibility conditions," Brazilian authorities said, per CBS News. Her family said rescuers finally reached her on Tuesday, the BBC reports. "With great sadness, we inform you that she did not survive," the family said. "We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection and support that we have received."

Rescue teams in Indonesia are searching for Juliana Marins, a 26-year-old Brazilian tourist who fell while hiking near the crater of the active volcano Mount Rinjani over the weekend, the BBC reports. Marins disappeared early Saturday while trekking with a group, reportedly slipping from a cliff that borders a trail next to the crater, according to Brazilian authorities. She is believed to have fallen into the crater and has been trapped inside the volcano since, People reports.

Efforts to locate Marins have faced setbacks from challenging terrain and dense fog. Park officials said rescuers initially heard her calls for help on Saturday and reported that she was alive, though shaken. Drone footage and videos posted online appeared to confirm she was moving around at the bottom of a steep slope that day.

Despite these early signs, rescue teams were unable to reach her after descending nearly 1,000 feet to her suspected location. She did not answer their calls, and by Sunday morning, drone footage indicated she was no longer in the same spot. Family members say that on Monday, rescuers managed to spot her again, though she appeared to have slipped further down the mountain. Poor weather forced teams to halt the operation, with rescuers reportedly about 1,150 feet from reaching her. Marins's family has voiced frustration that the hiking trail remains open to other tourists during the ongoing rescue, Newsweek reports. They say she has been without food, water, or warm clothing for days, and her current condition is unclear.
