Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne has died less than a month after he reunited with Black Sabbath for a farewell concert. Sky News reports that family members said the 76-year-old died "surrounded by love." Osbourne, born in Birmingham, England in 1948, found fame as frontman of the pioneering heavy metal band and went on to have a successful solo career. "You've no idea how I feel—thank you from the bottom of my heart," he said at the July 5 concert, which had been billed as his "final bow." He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019.

"It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning," the family said in a statement Tuesday. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time." The Guardian describes him as "one of the most notorious figures in rock: an innovator whose eerie wail helped usher in heavy metal" and "a showman who once bit the head off a bat on stage."
