Man charged in shooting death of Mo'Nique's 'brother in comedy'

Reggie Carroll, a Baltimore-based comedian who took his routine across the country, has died following a shooting in Mississippi. Police responded to a reported shooting on Burton Lane in Southaven on Wednesday evening, finding Carroll with gunshot wounds, per Deadline. The 52-year-old died later at a hospital. On Saturday, police announced a man was in custody, charged with Carroll's murder, per People.

Carroll spent decades on the comedy scene, touring clubs with names like Mo'Nique. He appeared in an episode of the live variety series Showtime at the Apollo in 2000, the same year he appeared opposite Mo'Nique on Moesha spinoff The Parkers. More recently, he starred in the 2022 TV movie Rent & Go and hosted the 2023 special Knockout Kings of Comedy.

In a video, Mo'Nique reflected on time spent with her "brother in comedy." "I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing," she said. On Instagram, Baltimore's Club Mobtown Comedy said "the Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city's great talents" and offered prayers to Carroll's family.
