Nuclear power supplies about 20% of the nation's electricity, notes Quartz. And while dozens of states generate nuclear power, eight of them dominate the industry. Using data from Statista and the US Energy Information Administration from 2024, the site ranks them, with Illinois leading the way:

  1. Illinois produced 99,212 gigawatt-hours of nuclear power in 2024
  2. Pennsylvania, 75,404
  3. South Carolina, 53,770
  4. Georgia, 47,976
  5. Alabama, 44,487
  6. North Carolina, 43,349
  7. Texas, 38,613
  8. Arizona, 32,388
