Six Flags Over Texas has unveiled plans for a record-breaking roller coaster slated to debut next year with a laundry list of "firsts" in the theme park world. Tormenta Rampaging Run is expected to claim six world records, including the fastest speed for a traditional coaster at 87mph. Riders will also encounter a 285-foot vertical drop at a 95-degree angle, a 309-foot ascent, and a 179-foot loop, which Six Flags says will be the tallest on the planet, per Quartz. If that's not enough, the ride will flip passengers upside down 218 feet above ground. "Six Flags Over Texas has always been a leader in creating unforgettable experiences," says Mark Boyer, a park exec. "This coaster is a true testament to our commitment to providing world-class thrills and innovation."

The ride—promised to be the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in the world, as well as the first ever giga dive coaster, per KXAS—is set to open during the park's 65th anniversary and could be a much-needed boost for Six Flags. The company's attendance dropped 9% in the second quarter of 2025, a stark contrast to the recent gains reported by rivals Disney and Universal. Six Flags has blamed the slump on bad weather and high temperatures, though it says attendance picked up in August. The timing of the announcement is a bit "awkward," per Quartz, coming after a fatal accident on Universal's new Stardust Racers coaster at Epic Universe in Orlando. Universal maintains the ride operated as designed and that staff followed protocol, but the coaster remains closed as investigations continue.
