Seat belts that might not keep passengers in place have triggered a major recall for Lucid Motors' new flagship SUV. The California EV maker is calling back 4,476 Gravity vehicles after discovering that lap belt anchors in the second row may have been improperly welded, raising the risk they could fail in a crash, according to a filing with federal regulators. Lucid spotted the problem during a January test unrelated to seat belts, reports Gizmodo. No injuries tied to the defect have been reported.

The recall covers all Gravity vehicles built before 2026, per Autoblog. Lucid will mail notices by May 22 and inspect and repair affected SUVs at no cost, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says. The Gravity is Lucid's second model and central to its growth plans, competing with high-end electric SUVs from Cadillac, Rivian, and Volvo—and serving as the platform for a planned Uber robotaxi fleet of up to 20,000 vehicles. Comedian Eugene Mirman (known for Bob's Burgers) was injured this week in a crash of his Gravity SUV, but it's not clear if his vehicle would have been affected by this recall.
