The Milwaukee Brewers have placed right-handed ace Ben Sheets on the disabled list for at least 4 weeks, citing a torn tendon in his throwing hand. The Brewers, currently battling Chicago for first place in the NL Central, will sit their All-Star for two weeks before sketching a rehab schedule. Sheets is 10-4 this year with a 3.39 ERA.

Milwaukee is likely to replace the 28-year-old with the largely untested Yovani Gallardo, a potential hazard for a club trying to ward off the streaking Cubs. Nonetheless, Gallardo has shown promise, throwing 4 2/3 shut-down innings against Colorado on Saturday. The Brewers next square off against Arizona tonight behind lefty Chris Capuano.
