Illinois AG: Let Voters Pick New Senator

Blago and bailouts were the talk of today's talk shows. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan told Meet the Press that voters should elect Barack Obama’s Senate replacement in a special election, while the state’s lieutenant governor said legislation would allow him to appoint a caretaker until a special election if disgraced Gov. Rod Blagojevich resigns. Other highlights from the Sunday shows:

• On Meet the Press, Mitt Romney said Detroit's failure to win government aid should prompt the auto industry to reduce expenses, noting that foreign auto companies manufacture cars at much lower hourly labor costs. Retorted Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm: "That's not true, Mitt Romney."
• John McCain chastised fellow Republicans on This Week for overly politicizing the Illinois corruption scandal, saying “we should try to be working constructively together, not only on an issue such as this, but on the economy stimulus package.”
