Young Christians inevitably experience a crisis when they realize how deeply religion clashes with science, but an evangelical geneticist is aiming to restore their faith, Time reports. Unveiling the BioLogos Foundation this week, Francis Collins seeks to resolve questions over Adam and Eve’s creation and evolution. “We cannot say that Adam and Eve were formed as acts of special creation," he says.
"That is a troubling conclusion for many people,” adds Collins, who says intelligent design is “not a scientific proposal” and “not good theology either.” At 59, Collins has invited theologians and scientists to tackle such issues together at BioLogos. He also fields thousands of messages from believers and skeptics alike through the organization's website. "Evolution gives us the 'how,' but we need the Bible to understand the 'why' of our creation,” says Collins.
